1)If parallel rays of light fall on a convex lens as shown in the image above, it converges them at focus of the lens on the other side. Because of this converging nature of the lens, it is known as a converging lens.
2)If parallel rays of light fall on a concave lens as shown in the image above, it diverges them in a way that they seem to be diverging from the focus of the lens on the same side. Because of this diverging nature of the lens, it is known as a diverging lens.
