Question

Why is a layer of zinc-coated over iron?

Open in App
Solution

  • Iron objects react with oxygen and moisture leading to the formation of a mixture of iron which is known as rust. Rust degrades the strength, appearance, and permeability of iron objects.
  • So, the zinc layer is applied over the objects of iron to prevent rusting.
  • The process of coating of zinc layer above the iron objects is known as Galvanization.
