Question

Why is a ring of iron blade heated before fixing it into the handle of a tool?

Open in App
Solution

Metals expand on heating. The ring of the iron blade is heated before fixing it into the handle. The ring becomes slightly larger in size, therefore the handle fits tightly into it when the iron blade is cooled down.
