Threat to the Taj Mahal:
Acid rain:
Acid rain is formed by the reaction of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur i.e nitric oxide and sulphur dioxide and these oxides react with the rainwater resulting in acid rain.
It corrodes the marbles of the Taj Mahal.
This phenomenon of corrosion of marbles is called marble cancer.
