Question

Why is ammeter connected in series and volt meter in parallel circuit?

Open in App
Solution

In order for a voltmeter to measure a device's voltage, it must be connected in parallel to that device . This is necessary because objects in parallel experience the same potential difference. When something is connected in parellel to a circuit, current flow splits between the two connections. So in order to measure current ammeter cant be connected in series as this would give the wrong reading. This is the reason why it is connected in series.
