Question

Why is asexual reproduction called somatogenic reproduction?

Open in App
Solution

Somatogenic reproduction:

  1. In asexual reproduction, the cell divides only through the mitotic division process.
  2. Mitosis is responsible for the formation of new progenies.
  3. Because only the somatic part of the parental organism is involved in this type of reproduction, it is referred to as somatogenic reproduction.
  4. We get exact copies of the progenies after the asexual reproduction is complete.
  5. It means that asexual reproduction produces identical offspring.
  6. It is also known as clones.
  7. Binary fission, fragmentation, budding, and spore formation, are examples.
