1. Plants are dioecious and flowers are unisexual.
2. Either anthers mature first before gynoecium or gynoecium matures before anther.
3. Genetic incompatibility between the pollen and stigma of the same flower.
4. Position of the anther and stigma of the same flower is such that, the pollen does not fall on the stigma of the same flower.
