Question

Why is canal irrigation not efficient method of irrigation?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

Canal irrigation despite being a dominant irrigation and water transfer technique is not the most efficient method of irrigation as the canal water seeps into the ground causing water logging along the canal route. Canals could also overflow, flooding the nearby areas . Areas near the canals can also act as breeding grounds for mosquitoes causing diseases like malaria. Canal irrigation is also not suitable for all terrains like hills, it is only efficient in plains.
