Question

Why is cathode ray tube evacuated to a low pressure?

Open in App
Solution

Cathode ray tube evacuated to a low pressure:-

  1. A Cathode ray tube setup consists of a discharge tube that is connected to the vacuum pump.
  2. There is an anode and a cathode inside the tube, which is connected to a high voltage generator.
  1. The cathode ray tube is evacuated to low pressure because the electrons can move freely through the tube.
  2. The electrons are obstructed by the air molecules, in the presence of normal pressure.

Hence, the cathode ray tube is evacuated to low pressure.
