Question

Why is centrifugal force called a fictional force?

Open in App
Solution

In Newtonian mechanics, the centrifugal force is referred to one of two distinct concepts :an inertial force which is also called fictitious force.Centrifugal force is considered as fictitious because it is observed as a non-inertial reference frame and it is sometimes gives equal and opposite reactions to centrifugal force and hence we can say that fictitious force can be considered as centrifugal force.

The centrifugal force is not a real force ,it is a fictitious force . the only force involved here is the force of tension in the string acting towards the centre (i.e centripetal force). A force which really does not exist but is considered to describe or understand a certain motion is called a fictitious force or virtual force
