Charcoal is better fuel than wood because:

  1. When the same amount of charcoal and wood is burnt, charcoal produces almost twice the heat produced by wood.
  2. Charcoal produces much less smoke than wood.
  3. Charcoal is a compact fuel that is more convenient to handle than wood.
  4. Charcoal has a low ignition temperature, produces less smoke and has a higher calorific value as compared to wood.
  5. Charcoal lasts longer than wood when wood gets heated it burns into ashes.
  6. Charcoal on heating remains hot and it is easy to cook with it.
  7. It is also easier to transport and ready to be used in any convenient dry or broken-up form.
  8. Charcoal is less expensive and more consistent in size than wood.
