Why is commercial hydrochloric acid often yellow in colour?

The reason for yellow color of commercial hydrochloric acid is due to the presence of FeCl3 (ferric chloride), traces of iron, organic impurities etc..

After dilution it will still look pale yellow. That's why, Pure acid solution is colourless but commercial acid yellow in colour.
