Question

Why is electric field zero inside a charged conductor?

Open in App
Solution

Electric field: An electric field is a force produced by a charge in close proximity to its surroundings.

  1. A conductor is a material with a large number of free electrons available for current passage.
  2. Because there are so many electrons, the force of repulsion between them is also very strong.
  3. As a result, in order to reduce electron repulsion, electrons move to the conductor's surface.
  4. As a result, the net charge inside the conductor is zero.
  5. There will be no electric field if there is no charge.

Thus, The electric field is zero inside a charged conductor.
