Question

why is electricity of two different ratings used in domestic electrical circuit

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
The domestic circuit has two separate circuits, because different appliances draw different amount of current. One circuit is the lighting circuit and the other one is power circuit. The lighting circuit has a fuse of 5 A and it is used for appliances like electric bulbs, fan, radio etc.
The appliances which draw more current are connected to the power circuit. It has a fuse of 15A. Appliances like geyser, toaster, iron etc. are connected to the power circuit.
The provision of these two separate circuits prevents overloading and short circuiting.
