Question

Why is endocytosis found in animals only?

Open in App
Solution

Endocytosis is more difficult in plants than in animals because the plasma membrane of a plant cell is usually pressed against the rigid cell wall by turgor pressure, which hinders the plasma membrane from invaginating into the cytosol.

Endocytosis is the process in which flexible cell membrane engulfs in food and other material from its external environments. Amoeba acquires its food through this process.

Since plant cells have cell wall, it covers the cell membrane from external environments and endocytosis is not found in plant cells. Cell membrane is soft and elastic but cell wall is hard and rigid.
