Why is ethylene glycol used as anti-freeze?

Open in App
Solution

Ethylene glycol is used as anti-freeze because:-

(1)The melting point of water decreases by addition of ethylene glycol.

(2)Hence,within a wide range of temperature it remains in the liquid state.

(3)Thus,ethylene glycol can conveniently work as anti-freeze for the water used as a coolant in automobile especially in cold countries.
