Fuse wire(a thin wire) is used in electric circuits to prevent the excess current flowing into the circuit, thereby preventing the appliances from getting damaged. This happens when an excess current passes through the fuse wire (it has a low melting point), due to the heating effect of current it melts and breaks the circuit before it could pass through the appliance, and damage it.
