Question

Why is graphite a good conductor of electricity?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Graphite is an allotrope of Carbon.
  2. Graphite is formed by the layers of Carbon atoms where three Carbon atoms are joined by a strong covalent bond to three other Carbon forming an arrangement of six Carbon rings. The fourth electron of each Carbon is a free electron which makes it capable to flow current in a circuit and make it behave as a good conductor of electricity.
  3. Therefore, Graphite is a good conductor of electricity.
