Question

Why is graphite is used for making electrode in a cell?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student, Graphite is the allotrope of carbon in which carbon atoms are sp3 hybridized and are bonded to form hexagonal rings. The electron that resides in unhybridized 'p' orbital acts as a current carrier. This makes graphite a good conductor of electricity. Hence, it is used for making electrode in cell. Regards
