Question

Why is intermolecular forces of attraction is highest in solid and weakest in gas .

Solution

Dear student,

Intermolecular forces of attraction are maximum in solids, this is the reason why solids have a definite shape as molecules remain close to each other. In liquids, Intermolecular forces of attraction are less than solids. In gases, intermolecular forces of attraction are lower than liquids and the plasma state has the least intermolecular forces among all the states of matter.
[In the plasma state the ions move without any attraction with each other.]
