Question

Why is iron not very reactive?

Open in App
Solution

  • Iron(Fe) is a greyish silver-colored metal.
  • It is very reactive and can corrode or rust readily.
  • From the reactivity series, Iron seems to be moderately reactive.

  • It can be seen somewhere in the middle of the reactivity series.
  • It shows low reactivity because of the formation of an oxide layer on its surface, which is called rust.
  • It is reddish-brown in color and due to the formation of rust, metal gets hindered and shadowed up and the reactivity of the metal decreases.
