During day time, the plants receive sunlight and carry on photosynthesis for which they absorb carbon dioxide from the surroundings and release oxygen. Simultaneously, respiration also takes place for which they absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide. During day time the rate of respiration is lower than the rate of photosynthesis. However, at night photosynthesis stops and respiration takes place at a higher rate which results in more carbon dioxide in the surroundings. Hence in case of larger trees the concentration of carbon dioxide in the surroundings is much higher and can be toxic. Hence it is recommended to not sleep under a tree at night.
