Question

Why is it always the bulb of the thermometer that breaks?

Open in App
Solution

A thermometer is made from a glass tube. Glass is a brittle substance and a bad conductor of heat. The bulb of a thermometer is made of thin walls in order that heat can transfer easily through it. This means that the slightest jerk or misuse of a thermometer may break its bulb.
