Why is it difficult to open the door if the force is applied to the hinges of the door ?

Dear Student,
Hinged doors acts as levers and the hinge act as fulcrum. As such if the effort arm decreases more effort has to be applied to provide the torque to open the door. If the effort arm increases, effort required will be less.
