(a) Because Sand is soft and does not oppose motion
(b) Because Sand is soft and opposes motion
(c) Because Sand does not yield high Reaction forces required for Walking
(d) Because Sand yields Reaction forces required for Walking.

Solution

Option (c)
It is difficult to walk on sand because we can exert much smaller force in the form of backward action on the ground and the forward reaction of the ground will reduce accordingly while when we walk on the ground, we push the groundwith our foot and as a reaction, the ground puses our foot forward with the same force. It is this forward force of the ground that enables us to walk.

This is based on Newton s third law of Motion.

hence option (c) is correct
