Solution

  1. It is easy to swim in seawater than in river water. This is because sea water is denser than river water.
  2. The person can stay afloat with a relatively smaller part of his body underwater.
  3. When an object is floating in a liquid, the weight of the liquid displaced equals the weight of the object.
  4. Hence, when a person is swimming, the weight of the water displaced by him must be equal to his own weight.
  5. Weight of the seawater and the river water and the river water displaced by a swimming person are equal to each other.
