Why is it important that Adivasis should have a say in how the forest and forest lands are used?

Adivasis have been associated with the forests since long for their livelihood. They not only rely upon forests for forest fuel but also have religious sentiments associated with them. Forests covered the major part of our country till the nineteenth century and the Adivasis had a deep knowledge of, access to, as well as control over most of these vast tracts at least till the middle of the nineteenth century. This was the reason they knew best how to us the forest keeping sustainability in mind. This is the reason why Adivasis should have a say in how their forests and forest lands are used.
