Why is it important to separate religion from the state? What would have happened if there was no separation of religion and state?

Dear student Yes, it is extremely important to separate religion from politics in our country. India is a diverse country where people of many religions live. If the state starts favouring a particular religion, then it will lead to alienate large segments of our society. Law and order will break down and there may even be civil war. Regards
