Why is it necessary to have a material medium for sound waves to propagate?

  1. Sound is produced by vibrations of object.
  2. Vibrations of an object must be passed through air to reach our ears to produce sound.
  3. Since vibrations need material medium to travel hence sound wave can only propagate in material medium and not in vacuum.
