Why is it not advisable to carry oxygen cylinders by scuba divers mixed with nitrogen gas? Also explain why helium gas is preferred to be mixed?

Solution

The pressure under water is very high and hence the body of scuba diver is under extreme pressure. Under this pressure, nitrogen has a tendency to mix with blood which can cause nitrogen narcosis

To prevent this helium gas is preferred since it is inert and at the same time is lightweight hence the risks incurred are negligible.
