Question

Why is it said that as we go higher the gravitational force experienced by us decreases, while as we go down(under hypothetical scenario in which person go deep into the crust) the gravitational force experienced by us is increasing. Also why do most scientists say that at the centre of the Earth the gravitational force experienced by a body is ZERO?

Solution

Dear student
a)Value of gravity at a height h above earth surface is given by g1=gR2(R+h)2so with increase in h value of g1 decreasesb) Value of gravity at a depth h below earth surface is given by the formula g2=g(1-hR) so as we move down the earth surface h increases so value of g2 decreases . at the centre of the earth h=Rgcentre=g(1-RR)=0Regards
