Why is it said that nitrogen is very important to us?

Nitrogen is the most abundant gas in our atmosphere. It makes up to 78% of our atmosphere and is also a part of many molecules essential to life like proteins, nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and some vitamins. It is also found in other biological important compounds also such as alkaloids and urea. Thus nitrogen is very important to us.
