Why is it so that the pillars near the qutub minar in Delhi is not corroded yet even though it's made up of iron

The rusting has been prevented because of the formation of a thin film of magnetic oxide of iron (Fe3O4) on the surface as a result of finishing treatment given to the pillar, painting it with a mixture of different salts, then heating and quenching (rapid cooling).
