Why is it that non-metals are oxidising agents?

Open in App
Solution

1. Non-metals have 5, 6, or 7 electrons in their outermost shell.

2. To attain noble gas configuration non-metals gain electrons.

3. Those who gain electrons get reduced and they oxidise others so they are known as oxidising agents.

4. Example:

N + 3e- → N3-
