Question

why is it that red colour in rainbow which has longer wavelength will scatter the least and blue colour having shorter wavelength will scatter the most?

Solution

Dear Student,

The scattering of light is inversely proportional to the fourth power of the wavelength (or it is proportional to the fourth power of the frequency). So, lower the wavelength of light more of it will be scattered and vise versa. Blue color (or violet) has the lowest wavelength and thus will get scattered more than others (red is thus the least scattered).
