During the leptotene stage of meiosis, the telomeres of all the chromosomes gather close to the nuclear membrane and assume the shape of a bouquet. Thus, the leptotene's Bouquet stage receives its name.
The first of five prophases in the meiotic substages is the leptotene stage, also referred to as leptonema.
Leptotene is the next developmental stage for gametogenic cells following interphase when their chromosomes are duplicated. These duplicated chromosomes, each made up of two sister chromatids, condense from scattered chromatin into long, thin strands that are simpler to observe inside the nucleoplasm during the leptotene stage.
