Lightning is considered to be dangerous as it is a sudden discharge of a large amount of electric charge. Such high charge is fatal if it passes the body of any living being. The property damage caused by lightning is also significant.
Positive lighting is particularly dangerous because it frequently strikes away from the rain core, either ahead or behind the thunderstorm. It can strikes as far as 5 or 10 miles (8 or 16 kilometres) from the storm, in areas that most people do not consider to be a lighting-risk area.
