Why is lithium, calcium and sodium dull in appearance except most other metals?

Solution

Dear Student, The definition of a metal includes the fact that it is shiny when freshly cut. Metals that readily oxidise would therefore have a dull appearance as a layer of that metal's oxide would quickly form on the outside. Such metals include lithium, calcium and sodium. Regards
