The media generally covers bigger issues that have impact on the lives of many people and this leads to the poorer sections of the society not finding a place in such media reports. Therefore, many people at the local level have started their own media. This is known as local media, which caters to the needs of the local population. It is beneficial because of the following reasons:

1. It gives an account of the current news and local incidents that are relevant to local population.
2. It provides information on government schemes and policies relevant to a particular locality.
3. It publishes articles on the history and culture of the local people.
4. It can also be used in disseminating information about weather forecasts and best cropping practises to help and assist farmers.
