Question

Why is lysosome called a suicidal bag?

Open in App
Solution

Lysosome:

  1. It is a membrane-bound cell organelle with a sac-like structure.
  2. It contains hydrolytic enzymes which are capable of breaking down any organic matter.
  3. When the lysosome bursts, the enzymes are released and they start breaking down their own cell.
  4. Due to this, the lysosome is called a suicidal bag.
