Why is management considered a multi-faceted concept?
Management is a complex activity which is concerned with people, work and operations. It comprises of
(i) Management of work: It is concerned with the performance of various activities/tasks in an organisation. e.g. manufacturing a product in a factory, treating patients in a hospital, etc.
(ii) Management of people: It refers to the management of human resources which are the most important asset to an organisation. Management of people implies two things.
(a) Dealing with employees as individuals with diverse needs and behaviour.
(b) Dealing with individuals as a group of people.
(iii) Management of operations: It refers to the activities of the production cycle, which entails the row of input material and transforms the input into the desired output. It is interlinked with both management of work and management of people.
