Why is methanol harmful

1) Methanol is a very toxic compound for human beings because it gets converted into methanal in liver and can cause coagulation.
2) Intake of very small amount of methanol (0.04%) in blood can cause death.
3) Pure methanol if consumed can cause permanent blindness by destruction of the optic nerve.
