Question

Why is neutralization not a redox reaction?

Open in App
Solution

Redox reaction:

  1. A redox reaction is a chemical process in which electrons are exchanged between two reactants that are involved.
  2. Changes in the oxidation states of the reacting species can be used to identify this electron transfer.

Neutralization:

  1. Neutralization is not a redox reaction because no electrons are transferred between the atoms in a neutralization reaction, but in a redox reaction, electrons are exchanged between the atoms.

Hence, neutralization is not a redox reaction.
