Open in App
Solution

Nitroglycerine is a heavy, colourless, toxic oil, and unstable. Even on receiving slightest shock can result in spontaneous detonation.

Normally an explosion is a rapid combustion, the three nitrate groups which are attached directly to a hydrocarbon releases a large amount of energy (exothermic reaction). The molecule detonate to form new molecules with strong, stable bonds, such as nitrogen and carbon monoxide.
