Question

Why is non-cyclic photo phosphorylation considered as a non-cyclic pathway?

Open in App
Solution

In case of the non-cyclic photo phosphorylation, the electron is released from the oxidized photosystem after capturing the light energy. This electron is transferred from one accepter to other. The electron is finally accepted by the NADP molecule which gets reduced to form NADPH + H+. The same electron never comes back to the same photosystem. The electron gap created in the photosystem is filled by the electron released due to splitting of the water molecule. Thus, the process is called as non-cyclic photo phosphorylation.
