Why is oxygenated blood appears bright red?

The very function of hemoglobin is to carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. So the oxygenatedhemoglobin has this property of absorbing all wavelengths of the visible spectrum except red. Hence the red colour is reflected back and the arteries which carryoxygenated Hemoglobin appears red.
