Why is photosynthesis called the reverse process of combustion?
Photosynthesis is a process through which plants produce oxygen & energy in form of sugar from sunlight, water, & carbon dioxide.
Combustion is a process that occurs when a material combines quickly with oxygen and produces heat.
Explanation of the difference between combustion and photosynthesis:
Photosynthesis | Combustion |
Photosynthesis is a process in which carbon dioxide and water combine to produce glucose, which is then broken down by lipids and other enzymes. | Energy is released during combustion, but it is consumed by plants during photosynthesis. |
Photosynthesis occurs in the presence of sunlight in the green leaves of plants. | Combustion occurs continuously without the presence of sunlight. |
Energy is created during photosynthesis. | Energy is lost during combustion. |
