Pituitary gland secretes hormones that control the functions of various other endocrine glands like adrenal gland, thyroid gland, pancreas etc. The functions that are controlled by pituitary are

  • Growth
  • Function of thyroid gland
  • Blood pressure
  • Function of sex organs
  • Body temperature regulation
  • Regulation of water absorption by kidneys
  • Breast milk production
  • Body metabolism

For this reason pituitary gland is known as master gland.
