Plasma membrane made of phospholipids is known as selectively permeable membrane as it regulates entry and exit of elements in cell. That means it allows some substance to pass but prevent some to enter.
Its two functions are :-
  1. It's primary function is to protect the cell.
  2. They possess special proteins that acts as a receptor and allow specific molecules and hormones to move in and out of cell
