Why is potential difference across a component also defined as the negative of the work done by the electric forces on a unit charge which passes through the component?

*So basically ELECTRIC POTENTIAL is the work done in moving a charge from one point of the component to a other point in it.
*The negative sign shows that the force against which we have to move the electric charge is acting in the oppsite direction to which the charge is to be moved
*so in other words we can say The electrical potential difference across a component is the work done in bringing a unit positive test charge from one point to other against the electric field.
